Film reference

Another film that
Reaffirmed the concept of my story was Hitchcock’s
“psycho” as Mary Anne is like Norman Bates in the sense that she from appearences looks like an ordinary teenage girl yet behind those cheerful eyes is a psychopath simply lying in wait .I heavily drew drew inspiration from Norman bates character as he to wasn’t what he acted to be The shots used by Hitchcock which have now
become an icon on there own .were what inspired me in my film.

One of my main inspiration for my opening sequence was the
film gone girl which dealt with the theme of how appearences
can be deceiving this is the main
focus of my opening sequence .How even are own eyes have the ability to lie to us
.Another aspect of the film that inspired me was the breakdown of the “cool girl” trope which is the perfect tomboy pretty girl ,a girl who likes cars and knows how to do makeup, yet gone girl broke it down to it’s nuances and showed the darker aspects of wanting to be the cool girl this inspired me to breakdown the manic pixie dream girl trope which is a cliche where the character is most often then not a cheerful ,sweet ,excited girl who loves life .I wanted to breakdown this trope and portray a character who in all actions is the manic pixie dream girl taken to an extreme and how her idea of love isn’t the healthiest .
My opening sequence also has a heavy dose of contrasting
emotions to it .This was mostly inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s
works as he uses the contrast in his films to build tension for
example take “North by Northwest” , Cary Grant’s character,
Roger Thornhill, spends much of his life surrounded by people.
He lives in New York City and is a man who has a secretary to
do most of his work, yet he ends up in a corn field in the middle
of nowhere, surrounded by nobody. This contrast is what led
me to create my opening sequence as I too wanted to show the
drastic contrast of emotions and feelings. This type of contrast I wanted to show in my film .

The close up and perspective shot found in the shower scene is what I portrayed in my opening sequence

The lighting was inspired by that of the godfather film as thought the movie half of there faces are drenched in shadows this was done to show the good and evil in the character I was inspired to do the same but at a more subdued level as the shadows casted on Mary Anne show the duality of her character , The idea of the main character being a bit villainous was also taken from the godfather as it follows the perspective of Micheal corleone .The idea of how social media influences are lives was an idea that was sparked from the anime Netflix series devilman crybaby as in that show there is commentary present on the positive and negative factors of the power of media I wanted to show how Mary Ann’s character is heavily influenced by the media and how it influences her to believe that love is all you need .
